ASTANA. KAZINFORM - The training workshop on the water resources management and application of the Earth remote sensing data (ERS) was held in Astana.
The workshop was arranged by the United States of Geological Survey (USGS), United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), JSC “National Company “Kazakhstan Gharysh Sapary”, U.S. State Department, U.S. Agency for International Development, and the International Science and Technology Center.
Except for experts and representatives of the State bodies of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the guests from Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan has taken a part at this workshop in total 56 experts.
The workshop was aimed to improve the understanding of experts of the State bodies of the Republic of Kazakhstan and experts of the Central Asian Countries of how to better use the integrated application of ERS data to stream gauging, both up-to-date technologies on water resources management.
The training was based on the example of Kazakhstan ERS satellites KazEOSat-1 and KazEOSat-2 which are operated to conduct the space monitoring the surface of the Earth.
There was an additional training for the experts of state bodies of the Republic of Kazakhstan as well within the workshop on the basis of the ERS Center of the JSC “NC “Kazakhstan Gharysh Sapary” to model the flood using the HR digital terrain model
As the team manager of data acceptance and primary processing of the ERS Center of the JSC “NC “Kazakhstan Gharysh Sapary” Berik Rakhimzhanov said that experts of USGS provided Kazakhstan experts with their modeling software of flood situation - USGS flash flood, which employees of state bodies develop it on their own.
The workshop participants were presented comprehensive information about space industry development in Kazakhstan, particularly about Projects implemented in the JSC “NC “Kazakhstan Gharysh Sapary”.
As one of workshop organizer, USGS expert, doctor Saud Amer noted that the ability of Kazakhstan ERS space system will effectively cooperate in the application of ERS data.
During his stay in Kazakhstan, Dr.Saud Amer not only shared the experience of USGS, has consulted the Kazakhstan experts, and lectured to students of Eurasian National University named after L.N. Gumilyov and Nazarbayev University as well on the use of space technology for monitoring the water resources in the world.
At the end of workshop the representatives of the JSC “NC “Kazakhstan Gharysh Sapary” and US geological service USGS believe it necessary to create the regional center for sustainable development of projects through the use of ERS SS RK and USGS data in Central Asia and Kazakhstan.
